Have you been following the latest season of Game of Thrones? If so, you definitely want to know this. If not, you probably will after reading this. No spoilers, promised! For the sake of today’s season and series finale, we analyzed who won the iron throne on Instagram, and who has the most dedicated fans. 

2 million followers in two weeks

The @gameofthrones Instagram account has been growing in popularity as the season went on and broke a remarkable benchmark of ten million followers. In the last four weeks, the account’s audience grew about 35% up to 10.4 million. In other words, we are talking about a growth of 2 million followers in only three weeks. Nevertheless, the account shows a Like Follower Ratio of 10.5%, which is impressively high for an account with millions of followers.

On April 14, the official Instagram account @gameofthrones created an Earned Media Value of nearly 3.5 million dollars. Compared to the release date of the seventh season with an Earned Media Value of $820.000, the Earned Media Value has more than tripled.

Let’s have a look at the audience. Compared to our 2017 Game of Thrones report,  the audience demographics stay nearly the same with a balanced audience of 50% male and 50% female.  There are Game of Thrones fans out there everywhere which is also reflected by the country distribution.

Who takes the Insta throne?

As the audience is half male and half female, we wanted to compare the five biggest male and female accounts of the actors. Emilia Clarke leaves her colleagues far behind with more than 21 million followers. That makes her the most successful one of the main characters with over 10 million more followers compared to her colleagues. On her account, she shares insights from the film set as well as private shots of her family life. She is highly authentic which is probably the reason why so many people like to follow her.

Let’s take a look at the male actors. Although his character doesn’t last long in the show, Jason Momoa is the most followed male actor of the Game of Thrones family on Instagram with more than 11 million followers.

Apart from the top 5, Bella Ramsey, one of the youngest actresses of Game of Thrones, shows her colleagues how to be an Instagram climber with a follower growth of 500% in the last month and an impressing like follower ratio of 61.1%.

Besides, you should take a look at Dan Portman‘s Instagram channel as he has a conspicuous growth of 150% and a top like follower ratio of 46.2%. These pioneers are definitely hard to top.

Fan accounts on the rise

It’s not only the actor’s accounts that rise but fan accounts also spread. One account that caught our eye is @gameofthronesnotofficial which also ranks first when it comes to followers. With a rising number of followers (currently 3.8m) the account shares the latest pictures adding a sense of humor. It appears that this account has quite the same gender and country distribution as the original @gameofthrones account.

There are many more fan accounts on Instagram, but their content is quite similar. They reveal insights from the set and create memes. The Takeaway

The Game of Thrones hype is still going strong. The series is in everyone’s mind for years now and still one of the first topics worldwide. HBO made a huge business out of it on Instagram as the official Game of Thrones account has an impressive Media Value of nearly $47,000 per post. The account’s worth rises by several 100 mentions a day which proves that being mentioned and engaging with the audience are a great way to ensure the growth of an Instagram account. Today, the grand final of the popular Game of Thrones series aired and we can’t wait to see how the final episode’s storyline will reflect on the actors Instagram accounts and the fan accounts’ growth.
