Operation Instafamous: From 0 to 10,000 Followers (2)

Free Instagram followers! Get 1 million followers in 1 week! Fast and simple ways to gain a massive follower base!
If you have ever googled any keyword in connection with Instagram, you probably came across headlines like those above. Pages, tools and providers promise huge numbers of followers in no time. We wondered: Does it work? Can we really go from 0 to 10,000 in 4 weeks? Let us find out and start Operation Instafamous!

Some of our previous blogposts revolved around fake followers, follow-for-follow abuse and the importance of organic followers for influencer marketing. We started to wonder if methods like follow-for-follow and like-tools are really that big of a deal for increasing follower numbers. Of course we are aware that such fake followers are invaluable for influencer marketing purposes, but nonetheless: You have to start somewhere, right? At least that is what seems to be the common motto of a lot of influencers these days, especially since companies still put a great value on reach when starting influencer marketing campaigns. So, will initially getting followers the shady way really attract organic followers in the end? And how fast can we take our channel from 0 followers to skyrocketing numbers?

Well, here is the plan: During the next weeks we will try to gain 10.000 followers on Instagram by using all the methods we know in order to reach our goal. The only thing we will not do is purchase followers.

If you are interested in joining us on our journey, then stay tuned! We will update you every Friday with our findings from the past week. Missed last week? Read all about Week 1 here!

 WEEK 2

Day 8

We are starting the second week by analyzing the three accounts with our InfluencerDB software. The software collected the required data over the course of the last week and it is now possible for us to examine the follower demographics of our channels.

Statistics Avocadose

Follower demographics avocadose_

Statistics Coloredart

Follower demographics coloredart_

Statistics German_gems

Follower demographics german_gems

Regarding avocadose_ and coloredart_ it is very noticeable that most of our followers are apparently from Russia, Turkey and the US.

Nearly 70% of the people who follow german_gems are from Germany, which was predictable since we post in German and also instructed the bot to only interact with accounts who used German tags or visited German locations.

The accounts’ like follower ratios – the number of likes in proportion to the number of followers – are immense: avocadose_ shows a LFR of 189.2%, coloredart_ has one of 185.5% and german_gems boasts a LFR of 226.2%. The simple explanation for these skyrocketing numbers is that we purchased likes at the beginning of our operation. Since we manage to get around 250 purchased likes on each picture, a lot more users like our content than actually follow us.

Day 9

We currently use the tool Instagress for nearly 12 hours a day. Seven of these hours are used in the evening, because that is the time when people come home from work and relax on the couch, checking their phones. The other five hours are used around noon. Between these active times, the tool needs to “sleep”, since Instagram needs to think that the bot is a real user.

Due to technical restrictions we are not allowed to take any actions on the accounts while Instagress is working, which is why we use its resting time to do the bot’s task manually here and there. This can be really effective. Here is why:

What Instagress is basically doing for us is following, liking and commenting on content that is connected to hashtags or locations that we have determined in advance. That means, if we set the hashtags avocado, vegan, and healthy, the bot will interact with images in which these hashtags are used.

But as good as this tool might be, there are some factors that the bot does not take into account. For example, there are users on Instagram who use the hashtag avocado for a picture that does not actually display an avocado.

Hashtags example

Instagress cannot see the difference between this and an actual avocado picture and will therefore follow or like this account, without nearly having a chance to get a follow back, since this is apparently a drawing account and not one with a person who is interested in avocados.

Therefore, we do this task manually from time to time. This allows us to pick the right images and to interact with people who are very likely to follow us once they noticed our account.

Day 10

A few days ago we saw a member of the website blackhatworld.com who managed to achieve an immense follower growth within four weeks and we asked him how he did it. This is what he answered:

Blackhatworld

So apparently his strategy is to follow people who already follow an account with similar content to his own channel. The important thing is that the other accounts’ content has to be of worse quality than his own.
This is a strategy that we definitely want to try as well. It just takes a few minutes of searching and we find various accounts with the same content as ours but with a worse quality than our accounts have.

After we found a few of these accounts, we are changing the Instagress settings for the avocadose_ account by telling it to only interact with the followers of these accounts and not to interact with certain tags anymore. After that is done we let it take its course and wait for tomorrow’s results.

Day 11

When we are checking on the follower growth today, we can see that the amount of people who follow our avocadose_ account increased by 7% within the last 24 hours.

growth

Follower growth of our channels within the last 24 hours – changed settings for avocadose_

Comparing this to the other two accounts, which were still running with the old setting and therefore interacted with content based on tags instead of accounts only, it is very noticeable that coloredart_ shows hardly any growth and german_gems even lost 2% of its growth.

With these results the logical conclusion is to change the settings of the other accounts as well. We are doing exactly the same as we did with the avocadose_ account a day ago, starting with looking for accounts in our niche with worse content quality than ours and then following these accounts’ followers. By tomorrow, we expect a notable follower growth for all three accounts.

Day 12

Today, we are getting the following results:

growth

Follower growth of our channels within the last 24 hours – changed settings for all channels

The graphic shows that since we changed all the settings to the new strategy, the growth of the avocadose_ account continued to increase. Furthermore, the german_gems account increased its follower growth by 8 %, which is a great result. Apparently, following the followers of other German photography accounts has a positive impact on the growth of this channel.

Contrary to that, the growth of coloredart_ increased by just 1%, which is not a lot compared to the other two accounts. The new strategy is apparently not working here. An explanation for that could be that there are not really many channels with bad quality content in this niche. People who use make up in such an artistic way are mostly creative people who love what they do and therefore offer great content. So it is almost impossible to find people who follow bad accounts in this niche.

For the coloredart_ account it is therefore better to go back to the old strategy of interacting with certain tags and also following people who are following make up accounts with good content, hoping that they will still follow us, since they might be interested in following different people instead of just one makeup account.

Day 13

From today on, we are adding engagement groups to our strategy. An engagement group is a group where you post your recently published Instagram picture and everyone in this group is called upon to like and comment on it. As a quid pro quo you have to do the same with the pictures that the other accounts are posting. We want to try out if it is going to have any impact on our follower growth, which is why we are joining an engagement group on the app Telegram.

Shortly after liking the content of others, the engagement on our recently posted pictures rises.

Engagement group comments

During the next hours we are continuing to interact with the group and we are also joining a second one for better results. After a while we are counting up to 15 comments and likes on several posts of ours, but besides that it does not seem to have any consequences regarding our follower growth. We also noticed that although there are rules regarding the construction of comments – more than 3 words and no emojis – most comments are not particularly tailored to our content and could fit any kind of picture.

Day 14

While we are waiting for new results from our participation in the engagement groups, we are able to check on the statistics again. Our analytics software InfluencerDB collected new data in the meantime and these are the results:

day 14 avocadose

day 14 coloredart_

day 14 german_gems

It is clear to see that the follower growth of all three account increased enormously over the course of the last week.

What is noticeable is that avocadose_ is now the fastest growing one of the channels. Its follower growth increased by 690% since the last time we checked it on day 8. This result shows that our new method, following other accounts’ followers instead of tagged content, works well for this channel.

Coloredart_ and german_gems both increased by nearly 570%. This is still a great result, but it is noteworthy that coloredart_ grew 120% less than avocadose_, even though it seemed to be the most promising account over the past days.

At the end of the second week, we can now look back at the development of our accounts’ followers from day 8 up to today:
