Top 10 Gaming Influencers on Instagram

The stereotypical image of the geeky gamer, sitting alone in his room, playing video games all night long, is long gone. Gamers have become the real stars of social media. No other niche has grown so immensely with the age of social media than the field of gaming. Supported by social media like YouTube and the live-streaming platform Twitch, the numbers of gaming channels boomed. No wonder that brands recognized the potential that these gaming influencers bring with them. We have put together a list of some of the biggest gaming influencers you need to know.

Let’s start off with a rather controversial star of the gaming business. Swedish YouTuber Felix Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie, is unquestionably one of the biggest gaming influencers with almost 60 million YouTube subscriptions.

He had partnerships with huge brands such as Google and Disney. However, in the beginning of last year, these partners cut the ties from the Let’s Play star as he attracted negative attention with anti-semitic comments in his videos.

One year after the incident, the 28-year old PewDiePie is still working on restoring his reputation. And as his follower numbers show, he still is a big hit on social media. Recent posts on his Instagram account reveal a collaboration with the watch brand Tayroc.

Markiplier is the Instagram and YouTube account of gamer Mark Fischbach, who dropped out of college to pursue his career on YouTube.

He is most known for his Let’s Plays of video games from the horror genre, such as Amnesia or Five Nights at Freddy’s, but he also features comedy content on his YouTube channel and appeared together with stars such as Jack Black and Jimmy Kimmel.

His fan base calls Mark the “most caring YouTuber” as he puts a high focus on really connecting and engaging with his followers. More than 19 million people have subscribed to his YouTube channel. His Instagram account also shows a very high Like Follower Ratio of 5.6 %.

The most energetic video game commentator on YouTube – That’s what jacksepticeye calls himself on his YouTube account.

Another drop-out from college, Jack, whose real name is Seàn McLoughlin, gained popularity after he was mentioned in a post by PewDiePie in 2013. Since then, he has become famous for his comedic playthroughs of video games and his vlogs.

In December, he announced a collaboration with Marvel in the course of which he created a special jacksepticeye Marvel mystery box.

Vanossinstagram or VanossGaming is the pseudonym of Canadian Evan Fong. His logo represents the image of an owl, which is why he and his characters are often pictured with an owl mask.

Another trademark of his is his ironic humor and his “funny moments” compilations of games such as GTA V and Call of Duty.

He often collaborates with other popular gamers such as SeaNanners or Syndicate.

Although he just recently started to become more active on Instagram, his account shows an impressive Like Follower Ratio of 7.3 % and a follower growth of 3.28 %. On his YouTube account, he has more than 22 million subscribers.

Daniel Middleton is the person behind the name DanTDM, formerly known as The Diamond Minecart. His probably best-known videos are those on the popular game Minecraft. In 2017, Forbes named Middleton as the highest-paid YouTube star with 11 billion views, earning $ 16.5 million that year.

On Instagram, his media value per post amounts to $ 13.412. In June 2017, he reached an earned media value of $ 34.412 after being tagged in a post by markipliergram.

Alia “Lia” Shelesh, better known as Sssniperwolf is the first female gaming influencer on our list. She started her YouTube career by playing first-person shooter games like Call of Duty, Halo, and Far Cry. Her account today consists of vlogs and different video games that she plays and has more than 7 million subscriptions.

Lia had several partnerships with cosmetics and fashion brands such as Boohoo and SugarBearHair, as well as with several mobile games, which she is promoting on her Instagram channel.

With Ali-A, another Call of Duty focused gaming influencer joins our list. The British gamer Alastair Aiken has more than 10 million subscriptions on his YouTube account on which he almost entirely posts Call of Duty Let’s Plays.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not interested in other games as well. For that purpose, he created a second YouTube account called More Ali-A where he posts vlogs and plays other video games, such as Minecraft.

His follower group on Instagram is quite interesting: While the aforementioned gaming influencers all had a quite balanced amount of male and female followers, Ali-A has mainly male followers (92%).

Some of his collaborations on his Instagram account include Gillette and Nokia Mobile.

Matthew “MatPat” Patrick is probably most-known with his channel The Game Theorists, with which he reached high prominence within the gaming universe.

As the name implies, his channel is focussed on the topic of Game Theory, in which he discusses games and theories that evolved around the games with other fellow game experts.

With his growing popularity, his channel grew as well. Today, Matt has several YouTube Channels next to The Game Theorists, such as The Film Theorists or his Let’s Play channel GTLive.

His fans express their appreciation of his content with more than 9 million subscriptions. His Instagram account, in contrast, is still quite small, but with a follower growth of 5.07 %, chances are high that he will gain greater popularity on this platform as well.
